For All IAGenWeb County Coordinators: In my county we get lots of visitors to the area needing help locating rural cemeteries. I've been wanting to come up with good cemetery maps for my county GenWeb site. I had son number 2 (Rich Jr.) do a little programming for me this past weekend and thought I'd share the results with other county coordinators. He wrote a program that takes the data from the TopoZone site which uses United States Geological Survey coordinates and entered them into a URL for a pretty good online mapping site. You can zoom in, pan left to right, up and down, and even get turn by turn directions. It leaves little doubt as to how to find the cemeteries. I have no way of knowing how complete a listing this is but hopefully it will be of some help to you and a useful addition to your sites. Those who submit Cemetery Entrance photos to the GPP would also appreciate it I'm sure if the townships were listed in the table as well. But you can delete that column if you need to. Here are a few examples of how other county coordinators have set their page up so far. I do like the idea of providing some info that makes reference to the data being based upon the U.S. Geological Survey information. http://www.rootsweb.com/~iaallama/cemetery/maps.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~iataylor/cemetery/maps/TAYLOR.HTM Someone asked if and how credit should be given. Here is one possible "credit" wording. "Cemetery location data provided by TopoZone.com, which in turn uses United States Geological Survey coordinates. The coordinates are entered into the Microsoft® MapPoint ® online mapping site to generate cemetery maps. The maps give turn by turn driving directions; and allow the user to zoom in, pan left to right, up and down, etc. Created for IAGenWeb courtesy of Rich Lowe Jr." You should be able to "right click" on the file name to save it to your computer. Or you can choose "view source" from your browser to copy the code. Some cemeteries may be known by more than one name so you may want to "a.k.a." them. You may also find some duplicate listings that you'll want to delete.
